How to fix IE7 and IE8 drop down menu from falling behind and image or slideshow.

April 19, 2012 in Tips and Tricks

I just found this to be incredibly helpful and figured I’d post it in case it helps someone out in the future.  I was having a problem with a CSS drop down menu where IE8 (anything pre-IE9) was “falling behind” a slideshow.  I found this to resolve my issue:  http://www.coffeecup.com/forums/html-editor/fix-for-dropdown-menu-displaying-behind-image-content-below-the-/?page=1&forum_user_posts_per_page=all  (Seriously, thank you Tracey for taking the time to post your solution!)

Basically, this person said to wrap the menu in it’s own div tag <div id=”iefix”>, then apply the following CSS to it:

#iefix {
position:relative;
z-index:1000;
}

Worked like a charm for me!
