What is CPAUG?

Quite simply, the Central Penn Adobe User Group (CPAUG) is a free, official Adobe User Group for people of all skill levels and professions who use Adobe software in the Central PA region (Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, York areas).   Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and include print and web designers, developers, photographers and freelancers.  Most people are in college or older but we are open to all ages and skill levels.

Who runs CPAUG?

The CPAUG managers are Megan Fister and Dave Lambert.  We facilitate the events, update the website and secure presenters along with promoting the group and learning as much as we can about Adobe software.  However, we couldn’t run the group without the support of Adobe, our sponsors, and most importantly, our group members.  This is your group!

Where & when are events usually held?

CPAUG events take place once a month. Our regular event place is Meeting Room A & B at the East Shore Area Library, 4501 Ethel Street, Harrisburg, PA 17109 (map & directions).  It’s right behind the Colonial Park Mall on Route 22 / Jonestown Road.  Events are usually from 6:30PM to 8PM.  Ample, free off street parking is available.  The library has free WiFi to Dauphin County Library System (DCLS) cardholders and offers WiFi for $2/hour for non-cardholders. What happens at events?

Most events are structured to include an introduction and housekeeping by the managers, then a presentation on an Adobe software topic by a speaker.  Speakers are frequently group members but at times we have “outside” speakers come in or a manager will present.  At the end of the event, we raffle off prizes such as software and books when available. Most people chat for a few minutes afterwards to get to meet other user group members.  Every now and then we’ll even hold an event remotely via AdobeConnect but we prefer to get together in person.

In the summer months, we often have casual events which are just meetups at a local eatery where user group members can talk about whatever they’d like to each other.  These often are discussions of upcoming events, technology, cool things we’ve learned, hardware, gadgets and more.  Geek out with us!

What should I bring to an event?

All you really need is yourself but it’s usually a good idea to bring paper and a pen. If you have a laptop computer or tablet, you’re welcome to bring that as well. There’s free WiFi internet access if you are a Dauphin County Library card holder or, if you aren’t, it’s $2/hour from the library front desk.

What topics are covered?

We’re open to any presentations on Adobe or Adobe-related products such as plug-ins.  We’ve even gone “off Adobe topic” a bit at group members’ request and had presentations on iPhone Native Application Development and Facebook MU and marketing.  Some topics that were presented in the past few months are InDesign Secrets, Photoshop Tips from the Pros, HTML5 with Dreamweaver,  Adobe Creative Cloud, ActionScript 3.0 Dynamic Content, Cloud apps & more, and we proudly hosted the Create the Web Tour in Camp Hill, PA, .  You can find our past events including recaps, A/V recordings, slides and notes at http://www.cpaug.com/category/events/

Why should I join CPAUG?

CPAUG is a great group of people who like and use Adobe software!  Not only will you get to meet them, but they are very open to sharing knowledge so you’ll learn (and probably teach) some things too!  It’s a good way to land a job, improve your skills, and even get a chance to win books and Adobe software in our bi-annual software raffles.  Additionally, CPAUG offers special discounts from our sponsors so you’ll save a few bucks too.  There’s no cost to join CPAUG and no “catch”.  There’s no “minimum” events to attend however, sometimes the Adobe software raffle is setup in a way to reward those who attend more frequently.  That is, those that attend and/or present at events, get more raffle tickets and, in turn, a better chance to win software.

How do I join CPAUG?

Joining CPAUG is easy and doesn’t cost anything and you’re welcome to attend all events – basically “just show up!”.  It’s that simple! We welcome your involvement with the group whether that means being active on the website, presenting at a event, or just making friends and attending event.

How do I subscribe to or unsubscribe from the CPAUG email list?

What happened to the other CPAUG websites?

The CPAUG Adobe Groups website and the CPAUG blog via Blogger is no longer available and hasn’t been updated since January 1, 2011.  All CPAUG communication will now be via this website and our email list.  We tend to announce other timely updates via Twitter and Facebook.

How to do I register for the site and join CPAUG?

To get an account on this website, please contact us with your name and requested username and we’ll create an account for you.  That’s it!  You’re now an official member of CPAUG.

I registered for the site but I can’t login!

The most common cause of this is that you didn’t respond to the confirmation email.  Be sure to confirm your account via the email you registered with. You may need to check your spam filter. Please contact us if you are still having troubles getting logged-in.

How to do I register or unregister for an event?

Simply email us and let us know what event you’ll be attending.  We’ll open up your seat for someone else.

How to do I retrieve a lost or forgotten password?

Go to this link http://www.cpaug.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword and enter your username or email address that you used to register.  Your password will be sent to your registered email address.

How do I subscribe to or unsubscribe from the CPAUG email list?

You can subscribe to the email list by clicking here and adding your email to this form.  You’ll receive upcoming event and important notices (about 3-4 emails per month, on average).  To unsubscribe, You can click the “unsubscribe” link from any CPAUG email that you receive.  Additionally, you can use this link to unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time. How to do I delete my cpaug.com user account?

Sign into your account that you’d like to delete.  Go to “My Account” at the very top of any cpaug.com page. Go to “Settings” > “Delete Account”.   You will receive a notice stating “WARNING: Deleting your account will completely remove ALL content associated with it. There is no way back, please be careful with this option.”  Then, to complete the account deletion, check the box that states “I understand the consequences of deleting my account.”   Once you do this, all information for your account will be irrevocably deleted.
